GSG Inspirational Tutorials

Welcome to the Inspirational Tutorial page. If you are inspired in some way big or small then this page was worth it. This tutorial first started off as a creative practice tutorial, then I took the time think about all of the wonderful images that used to come out of this and how I felt when I drew a realistic bird in flight without having any knowledge or experience in drawing birds. Hopefully this tutorial will give you the same feeling. This is an original method developed by me and you will not find this anywhere else unless someone has copied this method from this site.

This is the first time I've shared this method of creating art so I really hope you will enjoy. Just remember you saw it here first.

Step 1 Prepare NEW 8/13/06

Prepare (8/13/06)

This tutorial works great during any state of mind so long as you are not stressed or worried about something. The first step of this tutorial is to clear your mind of worry. Think of good times you had in the past or good times you will have in the future. If you have no happy thoughts then use the feelings that you are currently having now. You could feel excited, lonely, sad, in love, angry, or you could be in a spiritual mood. Either of these emotions can supply the energy and that you will need to do this tutorial. You are ready to start drawing once you have the emotion that you are focused on. So lets begin.

Step 1

You will need a couple of tools:

  1. A pencil
  2. A sheet of Paper or
  3. A computer graphics program
  4. A Digital drawing pad or mouse

*IMPORTANT* Do not try to control how you draw the shapes. Just draw them.

Randomly draw lines on your paper or on the blank work space on your graphic editing software (paint shop pro, photoshop, etc.) You can use the line tool or the pencil tool. If you have a digital pen then you can use that in the same manner

Step 2

As you are drawing lines you may start to see images. Try not to think of these images that are coming to mind. Keep drawing lines until you feel that you have enough lines. After you have enough lines (only you will know when you have enough). take a look at the lines as a whole. In order words look at all the lines at the same time and not as individual lines. Images will soon appear to you. Some will be realistic while others will be more of a cartoon look.

It won't take you long to find an image. Once you find the image. Start drawing the shape of the image that you see. The lines will show different images for different people.

For me I only saw 2 images A cat and a bird.

These two images came from no where. I wasn't thinking of animals when I drew the lines and the fact that I would see a Cat and a Bird was interesting enough.

What is the deeper meaning? I'm not sure. But what I do know is that two images were created without me trying to create them. Remember let the images come to you. Don't force trying to see something.

This isn't a 100% deal. Your results may vary depending on two things.

1. If you are trying to see what you want to see which will block out chance you will have in seeing anything in the mess of lines.

2. If your mind was stressed when you first drew the lines.

Take a look at a few that I did on video.

Inspirational Art Video 1

My Spiritual Drawing. I was thinking about clearing my mind from stress and about life.

The things that came out of the mess didn't have meaning to me until I watched it again. The bed reminds me of the bed I had as a child. The house and dog also remind me of the same things. These 3 images existed at the same time. I don't know where the face came from.
